Like humans, pets also require regular checkups and vaccination to stay healthy and fit. Regular checkups are important in keeping your pet safe from some critical diseases. Some of these diseases which can bother your pet are:
• Kidney disease
It is the most common disease especially in older cats and dogs, but can occur in all other age groups as well. This can be either by birth or may develop as the pet grows old. Bloodwork is the usual diagnostic procedure.
• Diabetes
Due to growing age, pets can suffer from diabetic problems. It can be controlled by changing diet and exercise of the pets. But for some pets, insulin shots are required.
• Arthritis
It usually occurs in older pets. It can be judged by a veterinarian in regular checkups, but an x-rays is required for conclusive results.
• Flea and tick borne diseases
Fleas and ticks are the most unpleasant guests and unwelcomed crawlies for our furry friends. These can cause several disease in both pets and people associating with them.
• Rabies
Rabies used to be one of the most common disease found in pets. But rabies vaccination is an effective method of safeguarding your pet against this disease.
• Distemper
It is a tragic fatal disease usually found in dogs and puppies. Pups or dogs who are not vaccinated for it are more prone to this. Typical symptoms are nasal discharge, and high fevers.
• Parvovirus
It is a viral disease usually detected in puppies and kittens who are not vaccinated. Mortality rate depends on how quickly symptoms are traced by the veterinarian.
• Dental diseases
Pets can develop tartar, gum disease, and cavities that require a professional dental cleaning. If small gum and dental diseases are ignored and avoided then bacteria can enter the blood stream that can cause infection and inflammation of a pet’s vital organs.
• Heartworm
It is a deadly disease which spreads through mosquitoes. If detected in early stages, it can be cured. But there is no treatment for feline heartworm disease. Proper vaccinations is the best cure.
• Obesity:
Just like humans, pets also suffer from problem of obesity. Overweight pets are at high risk for heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, and premature death. Make your pets do lots of physical work and exercise to avoid obesity.
